La Dante Incontra Il Design

Dante Alighieri Society in Hong Kong is proud to invite you to join 4 incredible nights with 4 professional Italian Designers, Architects and Creatives. 4 nights dedicated to one of the distinctive Italian excellence: the Design. Italy has been for centuries the cradle of creative minds and designers, in different fields like Architecture, Industry, Art and Jewellery.
Our intention is to get to know closer some of the most important Italian creative minds here in Hong Kong, to see how their works are affected by this city, how the Italian side works along with the Hong Kong one. Those and many more topics will be discussed during these informal talks here at the Dante Alighieri Society. Don’t miss it!

MAY 2018
FRANCESCO ROSSINI  (architect – urban designer)
Francesco Rossini is an architect, urban designer and Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He graduated with honors from University of Naples. In 2014 he completed his PhD (cum laude) at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC – Barcelona). In 2006 he received a special mention by the Union International of Architects (UIA) in the international competition “Celebration of Cities 2” for a regeneration project in Naples, which has been exhibited at the 10th Venice Biennale of Architecture. He is currently project director in Asia for the international practice 5+1AA. Since 2013, he collaborates with CUHK participating in different teaching programmes and research projects. This year he became coordinator of the MSc in Urban Design Programme.

MANUELA CATANIA  (designer)
Manuela Catania is an Italian designer based in Hong Kong. She graduated in Architecture with 110 cum laude at the University of Architecture in Palermo. She also attended a Master in Accessories and Jewellery Design at Domus Academy Milan and Master of Arts with the University of Wales with a thesis about jewellery design with Swarovski. She specialised in Fashion Design at IED Moda Lab Milan and in Fashion System at IED Venice. In Milan she launched her first jewellery collection made by Murano glass and exhibited during Milan Design Week. In 2012 she moved to Malaysia to teach Fashion Design at Esmod University in Kuala Lumpur. She lived and worked in Sao Paulo, Dubai, Shenzhen. Currently she is Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing Programme Coordinator at Raffles Design Institute Hong Kong, where she is also teaching fashion marketing, fashion design and interior design.
She says “I move in design to create emotions and feelings between objects and people, between people and spaces. I like mixing the details of the jewellery with the elegance of the interior design, the sensitivity of textile with the functionality of the product. I believe that every trip can be a chance to discover a new design inspiration.

JUNE 2018

SIMONE MAZZUCATO (designer)

Simone Mazzucato, born in 1981 in Milan, Italy, has developed passion for fashion and design since early age, surrounded by his family business of silversmith. His strengths have always been the boundaryless approach to the manufacturing and the ability of creating a link between fashion and industrial manufacturing. Graduated in industrial design from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, he began his career at Locman, an Italian brand that rose to worldwide acclaim in the early 2000s. After he took on the role of chief designer at the Morellato and Sector Group, where he was responsible for fashion (Roberto Cavalli, Just Cavalli, John Galliano and Miss Sixty), classic (Philip Watch) and sports (Sector, Maserati and Pirelli) watch brands. In 2010 he moved to Hong Kong, the nerve centre of Asian manufacturing, to head the design division. As Art Director of the brand he has consolidated the image around the Asia and Pacific area becoming a trend setter in Japan, Hong Kong and China. After more than ten years of experience of working with major international watchmaking companies and driven by a desire to express his creativity more freely, Simone founded his own studio, Mazzucato Design, in Hong Kong and he decided to create the Mazzucato brand

TOMMASO PANERAI (creative director)
Creative Director from Florence, Italy. He has previously worked in Italy and Spain where he started a boutique advertising agency 12 years ago, specialized in services for the contemporary art world, museums, art galleries and cultural institutions. He moved to Hong Kong 5 years ago, addressing his career path to pure brand advertising and marketing.  After being part of the international creative team at Publicis Hong Kong – with clients such as Marriott Hotels, AXA, UBS, Nestle – he has worked as Head of Design for Plaza Premium Group (Airport Lounges, Transit Hotels and Airport F&B) and freelancing for International, Chinese and HK brands like Lululemon, Chow Tai Fook, Nan Fung Group, Reebok, Rosewood Hotels and other. He has been involved into integrated campaigns, branding, digital, social, content marketing and e-commerce, TVC concept and development, photo and video direction.
